New York City Couples Session | Exploring NYC with Lauren + Sean
Some sessions stay with you long after you’ve delivered the gallery, and this was one of them.
This New York City couples session with Lauren and Sean is one I’ll never forget. A few months ago, I hopped on an early morning flight from Boston to spend the morning documenting these two in the city they now call home. A few months ago, I hopped on an early morning flight from Boston. I made a day trip to New York City to spend the morning with Lauren and Sean. They had recently made the city their home, and instead of planning an elaborate photoshoot, we decided to simply experience New York the way they do.
Looking back, I don’t think I could have imagined a more perfect day.
This New York City couples session felt less like a photoshoot and more like spending the day with friends. Friends who happened to be showing me around their favorite city. They led the way while I followed along with my camera. I documented the little moments that make their relationship—and this season of life—so special.
We grabbed my very first slice of Joe’s Pizza (which absolutely lived up to the hype), hailed a taxi before eventually deciding the subway was the better option, wandered through Central Park, and stumbled upon flowers that were just beginning to bloom for spring. Nothing about the day felt rushed or overly posed. We simply explored, laughed, and let the city become part of the story.
Those are always my favorite kinds of sessions.
The places couples choose naturally become part of their photographs. They’re not just pretty backdrops—they’re meaningful. Every stop reminded me that New York wasn’t simply where Lauren and Sean were living. It had become part of their everyday life together, and documenting that felt incredibly special.
This session also holds a place in my heart for another reason.
It was my first major session after moving from the Midwest to the East Coast.
A few months earlier, my husband and I had packed up our entire lives and made the move to Boston. Like any big life change, there was excitement mixed with uncertainty. I knew this move would open new doors for my business, but stepping into a brand new market felt both exhilarating and intimidating.
Then suddenly, my “commute to work” looked like boarding a plane to New York City.
Even now, that sentence feels surreal.
There was a moment during the day when I stopped and realized, This is my job. I get to travel. I get to meet incredible people, tell their stories, and call this work. It was one of those moments that quietly reminds you you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
I’ll always be grateful that Lauren and Sean trusted me during such a meaningful season—not only in their own lives, but in mine as well.
Their joy, kindness, and genuine love for each other made documenting them feel effortless. More than anything, this session reminded me why I love what I do: creating photographs that feel honest, nostalgic, and full of life.
